چکیده

We consider algorithms of the Waltz type for computing local consistency (also called arc-consistency) for constraints over numeric domains. Many commonly used propagation rules do not in fact enforce local consistency. We extend the propagation rule given by Falt-ings Faltings, 1994] to the case of ternary constraints. Since any general n-ary continuous constraint can be represented as a collection of ternary ones, this also covers n-ary constraints in general. We show how the propagation can be implemented eeciently. The new algorithm gives signiicantly tighter labellings than previous propagation algorithms on most problems.

Directional Consistency for Continuous Numerical Constraints

Bounds consistency is usually enforced on continuous constraints by first decomposing them into binary and ternary primitives. This decomposition has long been shown to drastically slow down the computation of solutions. To tackle this, Benhamou et al. have introduced an algorithm that avoids formally decomposing constraints. Its better efficiency compared to the former method has already been ...

Hierarchical Arc Consistency for Disjoint Real Intervals in Constraint Logic Programming

There have been many proposals for adding sound implementations of numeric processing to Prolog. This paper describes an approach to numeric constraint processing which has been implemented in Echidna, a new constraint logic programming (CLP) language. Echidna uses consistency algorithms which can actively process a wider variety of numeric constraints than most other CLP systems, including con...

Solving Non-binary Convez CSPs in Continous Domains

A globally consistent labeling is a compact representation of the complete solution space for a constraint satisfaction problem (CSP). Constraint satisfaction is NP-complete and so is the construction of globally consistent labelings for general problems. However, for binary constraints , it is known that when constraints are convex, path-consistency is suucient to ensure global consistency and...

Propagating Soft Table Constraints

WCSP is a framework that has attracted a lot of attention during the last decade. In particular, many filtering approaches have been developed on the concept of equivalence-preserving transformations (cost transfer operations), using the definition of soft local consistencies such as, for example, node consistency, arc consistency, full directional arc consistency, and existential directional a...

Solving Constraints over Floating-Point Numbers

This paper introduces a new framework for tackling constraints over the floating-point numbers. An important application area where such solvers are required is program analysis (e.g., structural test case generation, correctness proof of numeric operations). Albeit the floating-point numbers are a finite subset of the real numbers, classical CSP techniques are ineffective due to the huge size ...
